Infrared scans are conducted when the inside and outside temperatures
have a large variance. Usually, conducted in the winter time
when the outdoor temperature is below freezing and the inside of the
building over 70 degrees Freight. Although, infrared scans can
be conducted at other times during the year the best results are
achieved when there is a large difference between indoor and outdoor
temperatures. In the summer the house must be cooled to achieve
the this large difference in temperature.
Infrared
scans normally are conducted during the night when the sun is down.
Day time scans can be conducted however, they are limited to cloudy
days.
Scans can be
conducted in the dark with the lights are out and without noise so if
sleeping children are present they will not have to be disrupted by
this test.
The information provided below will help you to prepare for the
infrared survey. Some of the information may not apply to
your project. For example, if you want Guardian Polymers to scan
the roof only, then you will not have to do any preparation for the
walls.
The Scan
1.) A visual
inspection will be conducted before and after the scan.
2.) Depending on the
test a scan may be conducted on both sides of the building envelope.
3.) During the scan a
blower door test may be conducted to help focus on where air leakage
is present and to help identify the problems areas.
4.) After the scan
has been conducted a full report explaining the results in detail will
be written to show the customer what we have found and what steps if
any will be necessary.
